Artscape showcases the cultural heartbeat of Baltimore, and the 40th edition will include 3D art by Stephen Hendee.This will be the first time participating in Artscape for Hendee, who works with various materials to build one-of-a-kind sculptures. He’ll showcase geometric shapes — made of lightweight plastics, black tape and LED lights — at The Grotto.”People are brought into a space that’s been transformed, and then it takes them out of their normal, daily life for a brief moment, captivates them and puts them in a different headspace,” Hendee said.It’s just one installation you’ll see at the 40th edition of Artscape, the annual free, outdoor festival featuring a lineup of artists, concerts, fashion shows, films and more.Organizers at the Baltimore Office of Promotion and the Arts said Artscape 40 will elevate the city.”Artscape gets the chance to serve as a finale, if you will, of a year’s worth of programming that the Baltimore Office of Promotion and the Arts does, really, to support artists, to encourage equity across communities for access to art, celebrating arts and cultural organizations and really working without strategic partners across the city to elevate Baltimore as a place that people should come and visit,” said Rachel Graham, BOPA’s CEO.Artscape events kick off Wednesday and go through Sunday.
