If we’re to have a Baby Bonus, how about one for seniors?

Well, it appears that if enough signatures are collected, a city lawsuit is overcome, the proposed Baby Bonus is placed on the ballot and a majority of Baltimore voters approve it, the idea will become law whether funded or not (“Why is the mayor fighting to keep Baby Bonus off the ballot?” July 22). Therefore, I will soon put together a new statewide bonus proposal for seniors 65 and over. It will be called the “Golden Years Bonus,” and it will give every person in Maryland 65 and older $1,000 a month. This will help those senior citizens who are having problems making ends meet in retirement. Also, there will be no limitations on how the money is spent.

According to a Google search, there are 465,106 adults (65,395 of whom are seniors) in Baltimore. In Maryland, approximately 16.3% of the population is over 65 so we should be able to get enough signatures.

I know people will ask where the money may be coming from. Oh, don’t worry about that at this time. I am sure it will come from somewhere. Now, don’t I sound like a politician? Come on, seniors, let’s get the vote out when the bonus comes up on the ballot. We should have this ready and, hopefully, funded in a couple of years.
